When part of a page repeats, such as an open day programme that runs on two days, you clone it and change only what differs. Clone beats copy and paste when the copy belongs right after the original: one menu choice, and even a whole section lands in place. To reuse a section on other pages, save it as a template instead. The video turns Saturday's programme into Sunday's.

  ## Clone a section

1. Hover the section you want to repeat and click **More**, the three dots on its control bar.
2. Choose **Clone**. The copy appears right below the original.
3. Click the heading of the copy and change what differs. In the video, Saturday becomes Sunday.
4. Click outside the text to stop editing.
5. Click **Save** on the DXPR toolbar to store the page.

Rows and elements clone the same way, each from its own **More** menu. Everything inside comes along: a cloned section brings its rows, columns and elements.

## Clone with the keyboard

Click an element's name on its control bar to select it. Then press **Ctrl+D** (**Cmd+D** on a Mac). With nothing selected, the shortcut acts on the element under the pointer. It works wherever the **More** menu offers **Clone**: on everything except columns and carousel slides. Those cannot be cloned, so the keys reach the browser there.

## Where the copy lands

| You clone | The copy |
|---|---|
| A section | Lands below it as a new section |
| A row | Lands below it, in the same section or column |
| An element | Lands right after it, in the same column or section |
| A tab | Becomes the next tab, with the same title, and opens |
| A toggle in a **Collapse panel** | Lands below it and opens; the other toggles close |
| A column or a carousel slide | Cannot be cloned |

## What the copy keeps

The copy has the same content, settings and style as the original. Two things to know:

- **HTML ID**: the original keeps its **HTML ID**, so links to it still work. The copy, and every element inside it, gets an ID of its own; type one in its settings if you want to link to the copy.
- **A/B test variants**: the copy keeps every variant and runs as a separate test.

## What you see

The copy sits right after the original, and a dot on **Save** shows that the page has unsaved changes. The **Editing History** panel lists the step as Clone with the element's name, such as Clone Section. Press Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) to take the copy back.

Clone also puts the element on the builder's clipboard, in place of anything you copied before. Visitors see the copy once you click **Save**.

## If you don't see the copy

- **Ctrl+D opens the browser's bookmark prompt.** No element is selected or under the pointer, or that element is a column or a carousel slide, which cannot be cloned. Click the name of the element you want to repeat on its control bar, or point at it, then press Ctrl+D again.
- **Ctrl+D opens the bookmark prompt while you edit text.** With the cursor in the text, the keys go to the browser. Click outside the text, click the element's name on its control bar, then press Ctrl+D again.
- **There is no Clone in the More menu.** Columns and carousel slides cannot be cloned. To add a column, click the grid icon on the row's control bar and pick a layout with more columns; see [Adding a Row](/hc/documentation/learn-dxpr-builder/layout/rows-and-columns). For a slide, click **Add slide** on the carousel's control bar.
- **Only one element was copied, not the whole section.** You opened the **More** menu of an element inside the section. Press Ctrl+Z, hover an empty part of the section until its control bar reads **Section**, then clone again.
- **Ctrl+V pastes the clone, not what you copied.** Clone replaced your copy on the clipboard. Copy the element again just before you paste.

- [Undo and redo your changes](/hc/documentation/learn-dxpr-builder/editing/undo-redo): take a clone back.
